Rockford Fosgate Journeys On The Ultimate Adventure Ride With "Rip To The Tip"
Rockford Fosgate, the industry leader in high-performance car audio systems, is participating in the 2011 “Rip to the Tip,” an eight-day journey through the Baja Peninsula where experienced motocross riders will fight all types of terrain thrown at them during a 1,488-mile trek. Rockford Fosgate has partnered up with three-time Rip veteran Bob Walker who will be representing Rockford Fosgate during the journey, which launched today at 7:00 a.m. PST, in hopes of making the coveted “Full Pull” from Tecate to Cabo San Lucas.
“This adventure embodies what Rockford Fosgate is about,” said Bill Jackson, president CEO of Rockford Corporation. “Rip to the Tip is a challenge that is centered on passion and commitment with the throttle wide open. That same attitude is in the culture here at Rockford Fosgate.”
The Rip to the Tip was created in 2006, when 13 riders took off from Ensenada, Baja California and headed to Land’s End in Cabo making it the first ever Rip to the Trip. Continuing on its sixth year, the 2011 adventure has the 38 riders testing both their physical endurance and mental tenacity as they start their journey in Tecate, Mexico, and travel through the peninsula to where the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez meet in Cabo San Lucas. The adventure is man versus land.
Facing the rugged Baja terrain, the riders will drop down the “Elevator” on Mexico’s steepest grade, the La Rumarosa, and descend over 5,000 feet in less than 2 miles to the Laguna Salada dry lake bed at sea level where they will cross it for 75 miles before climbing back into the Sierra De Juarez mountain range. There, the riders will battle the legendary “Summit,” near the top of Cerro Grande where riders will have only reached the halfway point of the first day leaving them seven and a half more days to conquer the Baja Peninsula. Each rider’s goal is to achieve the “Full Pull,” where every mile of the ride is accomplished.
“The Rip to the Tip is unlike any other adventure in the world,” added Walker. “It pits man against machine and nature. You never know what can happen in Baja. As beautiful as it is, it can jump out and get you at any moment. You have to respect Baja every second. I’m excited to be partnered up with Rockford Fosgate. They’re the best in car audio and they support the racing world. This is going to be a great experience.”
Walker is president of Connexions Sports & Entertainment. He has been riding and racing for more than 35 years. He was a Kawasaki Team Green motocross rider in the early ‘80s and has raced in classes 21 and 22 in the Baja 250, 500 and 1000s finishing as high as second place.
The eight-day adventure will be covered daily with a film crew who will be filming from planes, helicopters and the ground. Daily webisodes of the groups adventure can be seen on the Rockford Fosgate home page at www.rockfordfosgate.com. Up to 40 webisodes are expected over the eight days and a special four-part miniseries will air later this summer on Fuel TV.
The ride is scheduled through the towns of San Felipe, Bahia de Los Angeles, San Ignacio, Loreto and La Paz, including all new locations in Mulege along with an overnight stay at the iconic mountain retreat, Mike’s Sky Rancho.
