While i finish drawing out my plans for my sub under my rear seat, i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an amp for:
Fronts: P152-S x 2 (left/right)
Rears: T152 x 2 (left/right)
Each individual set has an RMS rating of about 60W (240W combined).
I was thinking of going with the P400-4. Would that be enough power for each set to get those sounding nice?... And should i be looking at the Rated Power or Dynamic Power?
P400-4: Rated Power 50W x 4 @ 4-Ohms RMS 100W x 4 @ 2-Ohms RMS 200W x 2 @ 4-Ohms bridged RMS
Total Power 400 Watts
Dynamic Power Front Channels 86 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohms 0° Res 144 Watts x 2 @ 2-Ohms 0° Res
Rear Channels 85 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohms 0° Res 142 Watts x 2 @ 2-Ohms 0° Res
Thanks in advance, BoomBoom |

dont get lower quality front speakers than the rears you plan to get.
if you are getting power series rear speakers get power series front speakers. it makes a difference. also get the t400-4, you can't go wrong with the power series amps. and look at rated power. the dynamic depends on the individual amp. and thats with optimal conditions. |

Well, i was trying to get away from installing the component x-overs in the doors. :) And i didnt see much of a difference when comparing them. Only +25W RMS/+50W Max more. But they're only like $30 more so i might go with the T152-S's. Beautiful sound doesn't come without sacrifice. :)
And same with comparing the punch and power amps. Not much difference besides, design, +40W RMS, and front/rear inputs.
But thanks for the replies. Now that i know the amp i had in mind is good enough, i'll jot that down and get ready to get a set of T152-S's, a set of T152's and a T400-4 amp.
My 12" will be running off the P500-1bd. When using a dist. block, would it be correct to run a 4AWG power cable from the battery to the dist. block and then 2 8AWG power cables to each amp?
I read all over where there are arguments about power cables running through dist. blocks and what gauge to use. Common sense would tell me if you're spliting a 4AWG cable into two, then the two amp cables would have to be half that size so one or the other doesn't take more power than the other... I could be wrong. |

the size wire should be as big as you can go. the amps will be drawing different amounts of power no matter what size the power wire is. if you can go with 4 guage all around, or even 1/0 gauge into the distro block then (2) 4 gauge outs to the amps.
and the specs might not be much different between punch and power, but you can definitely hear the difference. it is worth it the extra $50 to upgrade first to the power series. |

| Gotcha. Thanks. I'll go 4AWG all around. Gonna go to Lowe's this saturday and get a couple sheets of MDF. But i noticed before, that all they have is 5/8" MDF and every box i see made, uses 3/4" MDF. Besides 5/8" being a little more lighter since it is thinner, is it okay to use that over 3/4" or should i just find a place that has 3/4" MDF? I'm sure it will hold sound better and stay together easier. |

| Try to find 3/4", if you can't you can use 5/8" but you will need to brace it more and/or double your panels. |

| i would probably look for 3/4 we have some 5/8 at the shop (long story) but never use it to build boxes. in the end ur setup isnt quite small enough to be ok with 5/8ths and its not really worth messing with it IMO |

| yeah, i agree with kryp and emp. find some 3/4" for a real solid box build. if you need an amp rack or anything like that 5/8's would be more than enough, but for a box 3/4" is the thinest I would ever go. and still double up the baffle with the 3/4" when you get it |

when you say, "still double up the baffle...", do you mean the front of the box where the subs are mounted on?... So 1 1/2" front(face)?
I used to do that on 15's and 18's back in the days but i don't think we called it baffle.
You can tell how long i've been out of it.... I haven't had a system since before '02, when one of my explorer's got jacked. Found near some warehouses completely stripped, nicely might i add. Like they took their time. i literally cried cuz i worked on that system to get it the way i wanted. ughh! But i'm gettin' back in the game!!! |

| That's correct. The baffle is the panel that the subs are mounted to. That sucks about your explorer man. |

here is his other thread about the subs and amp:
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=32675
i would say double it anyway, especially because there will be 2 woofers and that weight on the baffle gives it a lot of stress. |

Ok, i have a dillemma on my hands. And like i mentioned before, this isn't going into competition but i do want a good overall sounding system in my truck.
I have ordered the radio which is: Alpine CDA-9886 http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=CDA-9886#9001;=en&tab=D
And while checking the radio out on the Alpine website, i ran into this accessory add-on: KTP-445 http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=KTP-445
It's a small amp that makes your Alpine's radio output go from 18Wx4 RMS to a full true 45Wx4 RMS. And hides behind the radio in the dash.
I know this being a rockford fosgate site, you guys will most likely say still get the T400-4 for my fronts/rears but if this thing can put out 45W RMS all around then i would think that would save me time and money. And all the reviews i read about it are good.
I would then just get the P152-S's for my fronts and P152's for my rears since they are only 50W and 40W RMS speakers.
Any thoughts? Thanks. |

| Actually that amp boosts the power 150%, at 18 watts RMS that means that you will get 27 watts per channel. At a retail of $140 for a 36 watts increase hardly seems worth it. I would still go with the RF, the extra power will sound so much better. As far as ease of installation goes the Alpine will be an easier install as long as you have the extra depth behind the radio. I have done some installs where the deck just barely fit as far as depth so double check your measurements. |
